Mark, I think I have a bottle of Molasses that I can sell you. I was going to try to make Moravian Molasses Sugar Cookies from some "original" recipe I got in Old Salem, North Carolina for Thanksgiving and well, that holiday's past now and no cookies. I can't decide if I didn't really like the idea of the cookie or the fact that I would have needed God knows how many hours running the 1,200 paper thin cookies the recipe made through a press. Let me know.

Note for anyone bringing molasses . . . double bag it! I had a friend bring me a jar, as well as two bottles of soy sauce several years back and she had the forsight to do this, thankfully, because the jar did leak!

I read in Saturday's Prensa Libre that during Christmas there is not going to be a charge for duty or IVA on items under $500.00 sent to a person's home from outside Guatemala. I didn't believe this but lo and behold two guys showed up on a moto Saturday and said they had two boxes for me. I knew they weren't from the PO Box courier service I use and was pretty suspicious but indeed there were two boxes a family had sent, from the States, for the kids at Semillas de Amor for Christmas and I wasn't charged a dime AND they delivered it to my house. The article in the Prensa Libre made it sound as though the Guatemalan postal service wants to compete with the private courier services. Wouldn't it be nice to have a kinder, gentler and less corrupt aduana?
