I Love Sushi
ByOne of the few things I really miss from the US is an abundance of good sushi. I use to frequent this one place in Mesa that was run by Koreans and had a sushi lunch buffet and a hibachi grill. I went there so often the little Korean mama would hug me when I arrived, pat my belly and suggest I eat more salad and miso soup and less sushi and sake. Yeah, right.
I’ve even tried making sushi at home. Art helped me track down the sushi supplies in the mercado (yes, you can buy sushi rice and all the other supplies in the Antigua mercado!), and a friend of mine whose wife is Japanese came over and showed me how to do it. We used salmon we bought at PriceSmart to make sashimi and it was delicious.
Fortunately, there is good sushi in town as well. Nokiate is on 1st Avenue, between 5th and 6th calle. They offer traditional sushi, favorites from the US, and some unique Latin twists on sushi, like Pablito’s way. Sushi platters range from 60Q to about 120Q. They are open for dinner during the week and for lunch on Fri, Sat and Sun.
I took the wife there recently, even though she doesn’t like sushi, on the promise that she could have a girly martini, which she did. I think it was appletini or something. Unfortunately, I had to eat the sushi all by myself because she refused to help. I managed to get the pictures off the Blackberry so you could see.

I agree with your wife on sushi, It just does not look appetizing to me.

Nokiate is wonderful. Great service and great sushi. Both my girls love sushi so we are in heaven dining at Nokiate. The best part of Nokiate is Tuesday night. They have two sushi rolls for the price of one (per person) which is great because you get one sushi roll for free. They charge for the most expensive roll, but it is a great deal if you love sushi and it gives me an excuse to eat two dragon rolls and rather than spend Q160 it is only Q80.
