Cultural Differences
ByA friend of mine is from New Zealand, and he was explaining the game of Rugby to my very eager 14 year-old. Part of the explanation included the internationally famous pre-game war dance known as Haka, which is unique to the New Zealander ‘All Blacks’ national team.
The teenager found it on YouTube and we watched it together. When it was done I thought, “Wow, there really is a big difference between the US and New Zealand”. Judge for yourself…first, watch the pre-game show for the All Black’s (New Zealand’s National Team)….
and then the pre-game show for the Dallas Cowboys (self-proclaimed “America’s Team”)…

A muscular guy dancing in a very masculine way in just shorts! That’s the equivalent of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders for women!
Did you know that Antigua and Xela have rugby teams? No Haka dance that I know of, though.

I think the American spectacle is so much more honest. Cultural appropriation of the haka by rugby players aside, sports are entertainment and not war.
